Silverlab’s Silver Solution Shown to Be Safe in 90-Day Oral Toxicity Study
When it comes to health products, safety is just as important as effectiveness. That is why
Silverlab Healthcare has invested in safety and efficacy studies for more than 17 years, a
body of work we are proud to share through our blog series.
A Follow-Up Step in Our Research Journey
After the success of our initial 28-day oral toxicity study conducted in 2008, in which Sprague Dawley rats showed no harmful effects from exposure to our pharmaceutical-grade ionic (Ag⁺) colloidal silver, Silverlab Healthcare took the next logical step, extending the testing period.
This follow-up 90-day study was carried out by an accredited research facility operating
under the ethics committee of the Tshwane University of Technology. Twenty Sprague
Dawley rats were given a single daily oral dosage of 14 mL per kilogram of body weight, a
level much higher than the amount a human would ever normally consume. (For
Comparison, this is equivalent to a 70 kg person ingesting about one litre of the solution
every day for three months.)
Using higher dosages is standard scientific practice in toxicity testing to confirm that a wide safety margin exists even under exaggerated exposure conditions.
Findings
Throughout the 90 days, the animals were closely monitored for any changes in skin, fur,
eyes, mucous membranes, respiration, circulation, and general well-being. None of the
animals died, appeared distressed, or showed any clinical abnormalities.
At the end of the study, blood tests and veterinary eye examinations were performed on all the animals. The results showed normal red and white blood cell counts, normal liver and kidney function, healthy fat metabolism, and normal cortisol (stress hormone) activity,
confirming that the silver solution caused no detectable toxicity.
Why It Matters
This study expanded on our earlier 28-day investigation, adding longer exposure and more intensive health assessments, including blood chemistry and veterinary evaluations.
Together, these findings strengthen the evidence that Silverlab’s pharmaceutical-grade ionic (Ag + ) colloidal silver is safe, even at doses far above typical daily human use.
